The TLC5940 from Texas Instruments is a neat chip. It can sink up to 17 volts and 120mA per output, driving up to 16 LEDs (or rows of LEDs, a matrix) at full brightness. It has 12 bit per channel pulse width modulation (PWM), which means 4096 levels of brightness control.
Here's one of my earliest projects, a fun messaging machine with an LCD and some random flashing LEDs. The action starts around 0:20, sorry I really should trim this vid.
Great, site is live! Stay tuned for all kinds of fun electronics projects, code, and just general interesting information about hobbyist engineering. There's only a couple things here now, I'll be adding more projects soon, and I'll be blogging about my progress on certain projects. Check back again soon! I hope you enjoy fletchtronics.net. --fletch |
