Day 5: Pick and Place, Part 1 So today I show picking and placing of the first few components of the Bumble-B. The parts all come from digikey.com and mouser.com. I tend to shop around between those two looking for good prices. Regarding quantity, it's always better to buy an entire reel of parts if you can afford it. General purpose resistors and capacitors are nice in this regard, a reel of 4000 is usually less than $30US. So look at the reel price before committing to a smaller quantity. For some parts it will probably be prohibitively expensive for us hobbyists to purchase an entire reel. I have never purchased a full reel of at90usb162. I purchase these more expensive parts in much smaller batches - crystal oscillator, microcontroller, and USB mini-b header. Generally I purchase 50 or 100 of each of these at one time, enough to produce that many Bumble-Bs. |
